How Google Is Now Answering "Best Clinic Near Me" — And What It Means for Your Practice

Something changed in how patients and clients find clinics, gyms, and wellness centres in India this year.

It started quietly. Most business owners never noticed it happen.

When someone opens Google and searches “best physiotherapist near me” or “gym with morning batches in Indore” — they used to see a list of websites to choose from. Now, many of those searches get a direct answer at the top of the page.

“Based on reviews and available information, here are some highly-rated physiotherapy clinics near your location...” And three or four clinics are named. Directly. Before any list.

If your clinic or gym is not one of them, you are invisible to that person — before they even scroll down.

What these AI answers actually are

Google calls this feature AI Overviews. It uses artificial intelligence to read information from across the web and give a direct answer to the search — instead of just showing a list of links.

In India, this has expanded significantly in 2026. Searches for local services — finding a clinic, a gym, a salon — are one of the most common places it appears.

The answer Google provides does not just pull from your Google Maps listing. It looks at multiple things about your business and decides whether you are specific and credible enough to name directly in the answer.

What Google checks before naming your clinic or gym

Based on how these AI answers work in 2026, businesses that appear in them share three things:

  1. A real website with complete, specific information. Not a Facebook page. Not a Justdial listing. A proper website that clearly says who you are, what services you offer, where you are, and how to book. The website needs to load quickly, work on mobile, and have information that matches your Google listing.
  2. A complete, up-to-date Google listing. Your Google Business Profile — the listing on Google Maps — needs accurate opening hours, phone number, address, services offered, and recent photos. Google uses this to cross-check what your website says. If the two do not match — different phone number, different hours — the answer has conflicting information to work from.
  3. A meaningful number of Google reviews. AI answers rarely name a clinic or gym with fewer than 15–20 reviews. The quality matters, but the number matters too. A clinic with 4 reviews — even all five stars — is usually not named. A clinic with 40 reviews averaging 4.2 stars is.

Why this is different from appearing on Google Maps

Many clinic and gym owners in India are familiar with Google Maps — appearing in the local map results when someone searches nearby. That visibility is real and valuable.

These AI answers are separate. They are not the map. They are the direct answer that appears above the map.

Ranking well on Google Maps and being in an AI answer are not the same thing. Map ranking is heavily influenced by your physical location and how complete your Google listing is.

AI answers read and check your information from a real website. Many local businesses on Maps have no website, or have a website that does not describe what they do. For those businesses, the AI has little to read.

How ChatGPT and Gemini see your clinic

When a patient asks ChatGPT or Gemini “which physiotherapy clinic should I go to in Pune?” — the answer is built from sources across the web.

These tools prefer businesses with clear, consistent information across multiple places: their own website, their Google listing, and a reviews platform. A clinic that appears consistently across all three is more likely to be named than a clinic that only has a Google Maps pin.

The most important change you can make

If you do not have a website with complete, accurate information about your services — this is the most important gap to fix in 2026.

A real website with:

  • Your name, address, phone number, and WhatsApp number
  • The services you offer, clearly described
  • Your opening hours
  • How to book an appointment or trial session
  • Some patient or client feedback on the page

This website should be on your own domain — something like drsharmacareclinic.in or fitlifegym-bhopal.in.

When this matches your Google listing, and you have a meaningful number of reviews, Google, ChatGPT and Gemini have clear, consistent information to read about your practice.

The review gap most clinics and gyms have

AI answers strongly prefer businesses with a real review history. For most Tier 2 city clinics and gyms, this is the gap.

The fix: at the end of each appointment, send the patient a direct link to leave a Google review on WhatsApp.

“We would really appreciate a Google review from you — here is the direct link. It helps other patients find us.”

Do this consistently and your review count grows.
